Hosta hybrid Queen Josephine is an exceptional cultivar that adds elegance and grace to any shade garden. This medium-sized hosta reaches a mature height of 12-16 inches (30-40 cm) and spreads to about 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) wide. The striking feature of this hosta is its heavily textured leaves that are distinctly cupped and corrugated, making it look like a blooming flower.
The foliage of Hosta Queen Josephine is a beautiful shade of blue-green with a waxy texture that gives it an almost glossy appearance. The leaves are ovate to heart-shaped and have a slightly rippled edge. The center of each leaf is marked with a bright, golden-yellow margin that gradually fades to creamy white, creating a lovely contrast with the blue-green color of the foliage.
In midsummer, Queen Josephine produces tall, slender stems that rise above the foliage, bearing delicate lavender flowers. The blooms are trumpet-shaped and have a sweet fragrance that attracts hummingbirds and butterflies to your garden.
Hosta Queen Josephine prefers to grow in a partially shaded to shaded location, where it will receive dappled sunlight. It grows well in a well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter and has a slightly acidic pH level. Adequate watering is necessary to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
This hosta is a low-maintenance plant and has excellent disease resistance. With its striking texture and color, it makes an excellent focal point in a shade garden and pairs well with other hostas, ferns, and woodland plants.
